What are x-rays?

X-rays are images produced by exposing a portion of your body to a small dose of ionizing radiation. The exam produces a two-dimensional picture of the exposed part of the body.

Did you know? X-rays can be used to identify conditions such as pneumonia and arthritis.

What do I need to know before going to the x-ray clinic?

  • Depending on which part of the body is being imaged, you may be asked to wear a medical gown

 

What will happen during the x-ray procedure?

Once you enter the x-ray room, our technologist will help position your body for your exam. You may be asked to stand, sit or lie down on the x-ray table.

After the images are taken, our radiologist will review all of your x-rays, and send a report to your practitioner within 24 hours.

 

FAQs

 Can I eat or drink before getting an x-ray?

Yes! You can eat and drink as you normally would before receiving an x-ray. You can even continue taking your regular medications unless your practitioner states otherwise.

How quickly will I get my x-ray results?

Your practitioner will usually receive your results within 24 hours. 

Are x-rays safe for children?

Yes, x-rays are safe for children. However, their bodies are more sensitive to ionic radiation than adults. Because of this, radiologists  are careful to reduce any unnecessary exposure.
